Graduate School Usa Shelves Plans To Open Campus In Southwest Waterfront Development
Soccer Outsider: USA-Jamaica match diary, player ratings
The USA is followed by Costa Rica (5-2-3, 18 points), Honduras (4-3-3, 15 points), Mexico (2-3-5, 11 points), Panama (1-4-5, 8 points) and Jamaica (0-5-5, 5 points). The top three teams automatically qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The USMNT added to its record-breaking win total to improve to 16-3-2 in 2013. Head coach Jurgen Klinsmann is now 27-9-6 since joining the USMNT in 2011 and is in sole possession of fourth place on the USA’s all-time winning coaches list. Klinsmann made seven starting lineup changes from the USA’s lineup against Jamaica on Oct. 11. The four same starters against Panama were Jozy Altidore at the top of a 4-5-1 formation, midfielders Alejandro Bedoya and Mix Diskerud, and defender Brad Evans. Clarence Goodson and Michael Orozco were paired at center back and Evans at right back. Goalkeeper Brad Guzan made his first appearance since he split duties with Tim Howard during the USA’s 4-2 loss to Belgium on May 29. Panama scored the go-ahead goal in the 18th minute by capitalizing on an Edgar Castillo giveaway, which resulted in Gabriel Torres blasting the ball into the lower left corner of the net past U.S. goalkeeper Brad Guzan.
10 – I just learned that in the hexagonal, Jamaica score once every four hours, or as DC United call it: goals coming in buckets. 16 Beasley with a nice steal and shot thats the first actual effort expended in this match. The USA are in full meh mode. 17 Johansson shoots wide. Im not worried about Johanssons finishing. Ive learned two things from YouTube: 1) Johansson can finish, and 2) Kittens + empty paper bag = adorable. 26 – Its obvious that the USA arent super-motivated for this match. Thats understandable; the job is done. And they have major commitments to their club teams, who sign their paychecks. Lets remember that these players are playing basically for free tonight. Lets just hope that the air traffic controllers who are working for free during the government shutdown are doing a better job. 32 – Maybe that laid-back Jamaican attitude is rubbing off on the US players.
USA ends successful qualifying run
By Jonathan O’Connell , E-mail the writer The Graduate School USA , formerly an affiliate of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, had planned to more than double its size by opening a new campus in a planned redevelopment of the Districts Southwest Waterfront. Those plans have been shelved, the school confirmed this week, leaving the $1.5 billion mixed-use project without an anchor tenant for the office building it plans while it searches for investors willing to provide $750 million toward construction. Jonathan O’Connell Owner of Big Chair Cafe Bar & Grill announces closure of neighborhood gathering place in Southeast. Redeveloping the Southwest Waterfront has been discussed for decades and is one of the Districts largest economic development projects. Know as the Wharf , its first phase alone once scheduled to begin early this year calls for 225,000-square-feet of office space, 180,000-square-feet of retail, 790 residential units, two hotels and 1,325 parking spaces. The school had planned on taking the lions share of that office space, about 190,000 square feet at the corner of Maine Avenue and Ninth Street SW, raising the prospect of a waterfront swarming with students attending day and evening classes. Jim Huske, a senior vice president at the Graduate School, said the administration informed developer Monty Hoffman, chief executive of PN Hoffman, that it would pull out of the project due to government cutbacks and budget uncertainty. We had to move out of that and we let Monty know that probably a year and a half or two years ago now because the market became unstable, Huske said. Huske that with sequestration and the government shutdown, the school would remain in smaller space in LEnfant Plaza for the time being. When Southeastern University, based in Southwest D.C., folded in 2010, the Graduate School assumed some of Southeasterns students. Right now were sitting back and considering our options, he said. You just dont make an investment when there is such uncertainty. Developers PN Hoffman and Madison Marquette had planned to begin the first phase during the first quarter of this year, with completion expected in 2016. Despite the delay, Hoffman said that he has applied for building permits.
USA tops World Cup Qualifying with victory over Panama
FIRST 100 YEARS Relive USA’s greatest moments through their 100 year history. Thats what emboldened Klinsmann to travel down to Panama with a seriously threadbare side. He was already without Michael Bradley, Fabian Johnson and Omar Gonzalez because of injuries and Clint Dempsey because of low fitness. But following Fridays 2-0 win over Jamaica, the German coach also sent starters Landon Donovan, Jermaine Jones, Matt Besler and Tim Howard back to their clubs. So the Americans arrived at kickoff with just one probable World Cup starter in Jozy Altidore. The wisdom thereof seemed questionable. Why not nurse that hard-won momentum? Why not run out as much of the first string as possible when its quite clearly in need of more seasoning if it is to become a bona fide contender for the World Cups knockout rounds? Why not give them another 90 minutes to work on that pacey soccer Klinsmann envisions? Then again, utilizing the last competitive game before the World Cup to test the understudies and those on the bubble for the Brazil roster against an eager opponent — Panama had to win to stand a chance of qualifying, while needed Mexico to lose — had its merits, too. And if conspiracy theorists might have offered up the possibility that Klinsmann hoped to knock Mexico out of World Cup contention by handing Panama the win on a platter, that notion was quashed by the late rally. Certainly, then, Klinsmann was vindicated in his odd roster trickery.
